Arithmetic has been a basis for ethics by too many for too long, and it des not have to be political conservatives, it can also be any group along the spectral line of political persuasion. I do not place liberal thinking and conservative thinking in diametric opposition; and if I did, I would understand that any diameter would bend in a curved space, and that’s metaphysical space as well as physical space. Conservative and liberal thinking often find themselves bending  in curved metaphysical space, and thereby coming closer to one another than their initially diametric positioning might infer. As they bend in extension, they come closer to one another

We don’t need to be conservative to have a deity or religion as a product of culture and experience and the needs of human psychology. This have of ours is an expression of psychic desire or fear; it is more necessary than we suppose. We are too casual when we exchange terms about religion. This informality is what allows us to misunderstand and disunderstand any orthodox position, whether it is Christian, Muslim, Jewish, Hindu or other. Metaphysics is not only a way to discuss the real, but is reality. Metaphysical dogmas are powerful forces, and there is no metaphysics with the strength of religious metaphysics.

Our bourgeois capitalist secular civilization, though, has its own sets of dogmas and links with absolute values. All institutions have a metaphysics complete with its own set of dogmas used to reinforce its ontological categories. Every institution, through the articulation of its metaphysics seeks to relink to its origins; this is in effect religious.  Thus, all social and political instituions are themselves religions because religion has never eliminated the energy formed in its etymology, which is to relink or reconnect, as in the Latin re-ligio from re-legere.

All religions are ways to relink with the origins, the absolute beginning, the cosmogony, what was in illo tempore; political states no less than churches mosques or synagogues engage in this religious activity.
